Last I checked, the RedHat 2.x.y kernel sources were slightly
different from Linus's 2.x.y. Same with SuSE. Why? I think it's
because some of the distro houses actually employ some of the
principal Linux developers, and their pet fixes/enhancements
sometimes get into distro before than Linus can approve them
for his reference sources.

SMP ain't SMP if you have to deal with a giant lock...
