Subject: x server (4.1.0) crash on YDL 2.1

after install of afterstep wm on a ppc9500 running xfree v4.1 over YDL
2.1, the x server crashed with a black screen. i saw somme attempts to
sync without succes. Then i did a hardware reboot and restarted the
computer at run level 3. When doing a startx i get the attached
"XFree86.0.log" on which i had a quick look. The video settings, as far
as i know, are correct and the same as before. X server complains about a
font (might have been installed by AfterStep-1.8.8-2.src.rpm) :
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
what could i do in order to recover such a situation ?
