What is init level 3?

Can you give me an idea of what you do to get to that point? I've never had
Xconfigurator test anything (or xf86config for that matter, or when I was
doing the install the first time around). Does Xconfigurator ask you for
feedback or does it try to guess whether the combo refresh rate + resolution
was correct?

One final question: how do I kill X-Windows once it's running? I presume I
can prevent it from running by setting things to do a "text login" on reboot
but how do I kill X-Windows once it's already running? I can reset it (at
least, that's what I presume I'm doing with ctrl-alt-backspace) but I can't
"Quit" it. For that matter, how do I get a listing of processes? I can
"kill" them with kill but I can't figure out from the kill man page how to
list them (wait a second, does 'top' also work in Linux???... got to find
out next time around).

Awwwww. Cute. I found out yesterday that our 13 year old cat that had a
propensity of doing that (he "helped" me write many an essay that way :)
died on Friday (happy birthday :( :( :( (well, he did have a few offspring &
hit a venerable old age of 91 kitty years) (one of which is still around...
though, she's been spayed so no future Beetlejuices)).

Eric.
