Probably because within Motorola they put very little stock in R&D on the
PPC. I know someone (name will not be provided (and, no I'm not making this
up) ;) (fairly well up on things PPC in Motorola because of her technical
skills in trouble-shooting) who transferred out of the R&D dep't for PPC
because she saw no future in it -- other people are apparently doing the
same (also, their department wasn't getting any money even though they
provided support for production teams).

Unless IBM can pick up the slack, Apple may have to consider becoming an
Intel-based OS (although, they'd never survive with the hodge-podge that is
called Intel-based PC).
