new cdrom

i just replaced the cdrom inside my linux box... and now when i go to
mount a cd with
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
it says:

[root@pm7100 /root]# mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
mount: /dev/cdrom has wrong major or minor number

any ideas?
