well here is somthing:

/etc/atalk/atalkd.conf
/usr/local/etc/netatalk/atalkd.conf
/usr/local/sbin/atalkd
/usr/sbin/atalkd
[dylan@pm7100 bin]$

it seems as if i have 2 versions as you said... and the one in
/usr/local/sbin is newer (the one i built).
i moved the old version and replaced it with the newer of the two,
also added the libs in /usr/local/lib to /usr/lib
... i hope it works!
am i missing anything?
