Robert may be prevented from starting applications due to the X server rejecting
the connection request because it is coming from the wrong user. I had the same
problem with kppp which I started from a terminal window logged in as pac1. kppp
wants to run as root and this triggered the problem.

Robert are you trying to start netscape from a terminal window logged in as root,
while the x server is started by logging in with your username? If you are, the x
server is trying to authenticate root and it can't because it only has your' users
.Xauthority key. root's .Xauthority key is different and its being rejected.

I'm on shaky ground here, and don't have a good answer for how to set things up
properly. Does anyone know?
