Most of the books I use I downloaded from
http://metalab.unc.edu/Linux/
(under guides)

I printed them in the lab's HP laser printer, and binded them.

I also bought "Linux Application Development" by Michael K.
Johnson and Erik W. Troan (Addison Wesley). I like it, moreso because it
complements The Linux Programmer's Guide nicely (what one misses the other
covers).

I have the older guides (which were a great help back when I was
staring up), so I really don't know how the new ones add up, but my bet
(if there anywhere the old ones are) is that they're pretty good.

Besides you really can't beat free.

        Cheers!
