Hello there,

I've asked this to the Linux-on-Apple-Network-Server list, but alas no
feeders so thought I'd try here...

Having installed CS1.1 on an Apple Network Server 500 (the AIX boxes), I
thought I'd try my hand at CS1.2 on it. As it's only an experimental
server at the moment I thought I'd install from scratch. As a side effect
of the ANS specific CS1.2 installer not yet working fully, I'm using the
1.1 (text based) installer, installing from a local FTP server. After
putting a 'RedHat' symlink in the uppermost 'ppc' directory, pointing to
'YellowDog' in the same directory, it all started installing fine.

After the various packages had been downloaded, it tried to set up the
mouse (standard beige Apple ADB mouse with Extended ADB keyboard) and
failed. It momentarily flashes a window saying 'Probing for mouse type'
but then errors, giving the 'Previous / Retry / Menu' options. It won't
do Previous, Retry just repeats the error, and I don't want to go on
without a mouse!

Thinking the mouseconfig RPM had downloaded badly when I originally
chucked it on the FTP server, I tried again (rebooting, reformatting,
reinstalling) but same thing. Then I tried copying the equivalent RPM
from CS1.1 onto the FTP server and renaming it so it appeared the same as
the 'newer' CS1.2 version. As I say, this old version worked without
glitch when installing CS1.1. But when using it as part of a CS1.2
install, same error.

So now I'm trying plan B... crying.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Ken
