I am having a similar problem with my PowerMac
4400/200
on which I just installed CS 2.1. When I run
modem config, it finds the modem, but running
the Dialer setup script I get the following error:

WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.41
Initializing modem.
Sending: ATZ
Modem not responding.
ERROR: Unable to initialize modem

DIALING FINISHED

The modem works fine when I'm running MacOS.
