Can't use YellowDog on a 9600 MP

Hi,

I hope this won't bother anybody on this list. I am writing here
beacuse YellowDog installation support won't try and solve my
problems with Linux.

My first problem is about X. Whenever I uncheck the "no video driver"
option in BootX, I get large white stripes all across the screen as
soon as I click, and the screen turns blak whenever I try to move a
window. YellowDog support has advised me to try different video
resolutions, or to install Xpmac if it didn't work, and here's what
happens then :

Passing vmode arguments to the kernel makes no difference.
Actually I can
use any video resolution while in "no video driver" mode in
BootX. I can also use any resolution with the actual video driver
for my video card, but I get the same problems as described above.

I have also installed Xpmac, but haven't been able to
start it. I get
the following error messages after the X session fails to
initialize :
PEXExtension init : couldn't open default PEX font file Roman_M

failed to set default font path
fatal server error :could not open default font 'fixed'
             X connection to :0.0 broken

I have noticed there is no folder for 100 dpi fonts in the paths
             listed in the error messages...

My second issue is about the french keyboard in console mode :

The \"macfrext2\" keyboard provided with YellowDog has
no \"q\", it is mapped to \"a\" instead, while \"a\" is
also mapped to
\"a\". I found myself unable to quit \"man\" in console mode, had
to force restart the system. I have tried several french keyboards
found on the net, but none works for console mode...
Alas, I'm often locked out of X due to the problems
described above, and I therefore end up with a keyboard that won't
let me type any command that contains a "q"...

My last issue is 3-button mouse emulation. I have chosen
an adb 1-button mouse without the 3-button emulation during
             installation ; I do pass \"adb_buttons = 1, 103, 111\" to
the kernel
from BootX, and I do obtain a menu with F11 as indicated.
Nothing with F12 though. Hence, no third button...

Could use some help here...

BTW, my comp is a PM9600MP, with 3 SCSI disks and 224 MB RAM. Linux
is installed on its own 2GB disk.

As you probably understood, the best I can get from Linux at the
moment is an X server that is not accelerated, and belmieve me that
means slooooooooowwwwww. Plus, I can't use any app, since they all
rely on the third mouse button...

If anybody has a solution, a hint, a clue, it will be highly appreciated :).

Regards,

S.T.
