I used bootx to intall linux. Start the MacOS and copy bootx over from the CD, there are couple of other files to copy over as well, and then some minor configuration.  If you have a newer machine use yaboot.  Its not difficult to set up, its all documented on the CD and on the yellowdoglinux.com website.
