Subject: hdparm help

Since I have a pismo laptop and it cannot goto sleep, I have been trying
to get hdparm to spindown the hard disk after a certian time, but it will
only remain spun down if there is no disk activity, which there seems to
be since it only stays spun down for ten or so seconds. How can I tell
what is accesing the hard disk so I can either stop the process or
reconfigure it so that it dosent use the disk?
