I'm pretty sure that YDL CS1.1 is booted up in 640X480 VGA mode (how do I
tell in YDL?)
on G4-400(pci graphics) booted with no video driver (bootx)
but when I invoke xdm the screen blanks and that is the end of that console
session until I telnet in from another machine and kill xdm and usually the
console login session as well

What sugestions to fix this problem?

I am using the software that came on the YDL 1.1 disk as of 9 months ago.
