Subject: Xlib/server problem

Hi,
I'm having a recurring error involving Xlib when trying to run a couple
of clients. In particular, if I try to start kmail as a nonroot user,
the process will run, but no window appears. Kmail works fine when
I log in as root. If I log in as a normal user, then su to root, then
fire up kmail, I get the following error:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server
kmail: cannot connect to X server :0
ERROR: KUniqueApplication: DCOP communication error!
The same thing happens when I log in as a regular user, su to root, then
(in the process of building a kernel), then do `make xconfig'. The same
Xlib errors happen.
Perhaps I have some permission set wrong?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Alfonso
