Is it actually locked or did the mouse freeze?

Remember the mouse is /not/ coded nearly as deeply in Linux as it is on
the Mac, and a mouse freeze is /not/ a dead kernel by any means.

Can you get a console (Command+function key < F6 , maybe
Command-Shift-Fkey in the installer) ?
