thanks! that seems to be the problem,
It's a Starmax 3000/240(newer G3-L2 card) with the Tanzania board same as
Apple 4400.
Apple system profiler reads the display card as "ATY 264VT" (is that ATI?)
I just tried this setting I found on the net for a Starmax 3000/160 with the
2.2 kernal
video=atyfb:vmode:14,cmode:1
(the 2.4 kernal just stalls at the other page regardless)
and it almost works everything is fuzzy, barely readable.
thanks for all the help...getting there, i'll keep looking for better
settings.
