Subject: YDL 2.1 upgrade

i tried to update YDL 2.0 to 2.1, booting from the cd. everything
seems to proceed normally, but at the end, i get a message
"Package install failed"
and the kernel is still 2.2.19, while other things have been
upgraded. does this message indicate all packages, or just one?
also, running a B&W G3 with a DVD-RAM, am i better off with 2.2.19 or
2.4.10-12?
