I have/had the same problem. Only one or two on this list and the
linuxppc list seemed interested to help. Unfortunately, nothing
suggested worked. I've since become used to the high resolution.

What I understand is that the XF86Config file needs to be hand edited to
put the right modeline in. The problem is that your monitor runs
1024x768 at 99Hz. As far as I can tell, there is no vmode kernel arg
that can handle that high of a refresh rate for 1024x768. Your monitor
will run 1280x1024@75Hz, which is exactly vmode 20.

If you ever get this sorted out, I would love to know the solution.

I've had no luck with Xconfigurator or Xautoconfig4.
