At this point I really would like to know what it is still wrong on my poor
modem.
The system is working pretty well, everything is fixed exept modem and
sound, and I also seemed to have done almost everything you did.
There is something I would like to know...

1) What exactely you get when typing lsmod?

this is what I get now:
[root@fomalhaut]# lsmod
Module Size Used by
printer 7056 0
i2c-keywest 5008 0 (autoclean) (unused)
dmasound_pmac 42896 0
i2c-core 14864 0 [i2c-keywest dmasound_pmac]
dmasound_core 13296 0 [dmasound_pmac]
soundcore 5264 3 [dmasound_core]

2) Do you get the "uart" when running setserial?

i.e.:
[root@fomalhaut]# setserial -g /dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS0, UART: unknown, Port: 0xd98dc020, IRQ: 22

3) Does "wvdialconf" recognaize automatically your modem?

Mine doesnt:
[root@fomalhaut]# wvdialconf guiwvdial
Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- nothing.
ttyS1<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1 -- nothing.
...
Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

4) What do you think should I do with "pppd"?
because I tried things but I did not get anything.

thanks a lot,

filippo
