Hey,

  Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions for getting my G3 up and
running. I ended up downloading the latest stable 2.4 kernel from
ppckernels.org, and now everything works. It's really neat, X came up
without a problem, I have no sound problems, and I can even get at the HFS
partitions that are on a drive connected through the Sonnet ATA/100
card. Apparently drivers _were_ in place for the IDE card, just not in the
2.2.19 kernel.
