There are two parts you need, an MTA program and a delivery program.

MTA: Wll get mail from other peoples mail servers to yours & vice versa.
So many people have sworn at Sendmail, and it's really quite complicated;
however, it's also pretty much the defacto standard and *everything* in
the world supports it. Qmail is also nice, but unless you need it, stick
with what your vendor (YellowDog / TerraSoft) support unless you plan on
getting your hands really dirty and maintain the patches yourself.

Delivery: Will get mail from your server to your users.
As for delivery, there are several options. the Uwashington IMAP-2000
server is fairly robust and support IMAP, POP2 and POP3 as well as sIMAP
and StartTLS IMAP when compiled with openssl. It's fairly stable but for
large installs may not be the best as I've head it's very resource hungry.
I use it on my servers and it's jsut dandy.

The other major choice is the Courier system which is implemented much
differently (essentially eash protocol you want to support is a "plugin"
for the entire package..) I'm not a courier expert, so perhaps someone
else will chime in. As i've been told, it's much less resource hungry.

Sendmail's already installed on your system. It part of the YDL base
install -- configuration shoudn't be too bad, as the defaults already are
sane and spam-resistant. The other things I've mentioned are availible in
rpm format. Configuration is, as always, not something that's a walk in
the park if you don't know what you're doing, but shouldn't be too hard.

IMP -> http://www.horde.org/

There are tons others (both Free and Commerical) but Imp is pretty much
the best of the free ones. I also like the interface a lot more than
say.. Sendmail's offering.
