Dan,

I'm running YDL2.0 on a 7500/100 to a cable modem and it is working beautifully.
I've also seen packet loss problems like this one. Once it was the result of a
faulty patch cable, and another time it was a host (mis)configuration.

Try to use ping with numeric output. 'ping -n 192.168.1.100' or whatever. This
will supress the DNS lookup of the IP. If this reduces the packet loss, hopefully
to zero, then you can add some static entries in '/etc/hosts' to solve this.

Another thing to try is 'ping -b 192.168.1.255' to ping the broadcast address
and see which machines in the network respond. I usually follow this with a
'arp -an' to see if there are any incomplete MAC addresses in the arp table.

HTH

Pinging the router results in as much as 60% packet loss... Replaced cable to router no effect. The MAC OS on this box works perfectly on the network and internet. The YDL OS on the internet is dog slow, so is email, the only thing that I feel is adequte in function is the news server (home.com) it appears to operate normally. Other units on my network are, PC, 1 ghz AMD,98se; MAC 8500/G3 350, Mac OS 9.1; Asante ethernet to Appletalk Bridge, and the above Linux 8500 and an RCA DCM225 cable modem.... I don't believe my packet loss is hardware , cables and such I do believe it is setup. Is anyone running there YDL OS machine into a Cable/DSL router this is driving me up the wall.
