Greetings,

I'm new to the list. I currently run my old 7600 with a g3/400 upgrade card
as a dual
boot machine with MacOS 9.1 and LinuxPPC. I am planning on switching the
Linux end
to Yellow Dog over XMas break. The one problem that I'm concerned about is
my graphics
card. I have a VillageTronic MP850 that noticably accelerates the MacOS
graphics, but
noticably slows the LinuxPPC graphics. I am concerned that this problem will
translate
over to Yellow Dog.

Does anyone have useful information about how to set things up so that Linux
can take
advantage of the card? It's based on a banshee 2 chipset, if that helps. Is
there some
code to put into bootX, or some gizmo to run at startup, so that the Linux
end sees the
graphics card nicely?

If I want to just run Linux, I can take the card out, and the native graphics
are pretty
fast, but on the mac end, the machine only recognizes 640x480, and resets on
startup.
I have a patch that allows other resolutions, but the switch takes like 15
seconds, and I'm
tired of the reboot wait switch res wait then reboot into Linux and wait more
routine.

Any advice appreciated. Please also e-mail replies to aeronaut6@yahoo.com,
as I just
subscribed to the digest, and want to be sure that I see all the replies
firsthand.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Martin Melhus
