We installed YDL 2.1 on a G4 on top of a Champion 1.2 installation.
Our configuration had separate partitions for /usr/local and /home
and we wanted to retain these.

During the 'transferring packages' phase, we encountered the "Error
running transaction set. Please correct manually."

By looking at the other virtual consoles (ALT-3 or ALT-4) we traced
this to a failure to mount the root partition. To correct the
situation, we pressed ALT-2 to get to the install> prompt. Here we
ran /sbin/parted and used the mkfs sub-command to regenerate the
root filesystem. This was followed by a check sub-command. Then we
ensured that there were no remaining harddisk partitions mounted
and rebooted. Finally we repeated the install process and everything
went very smooth.

On future installs of this nature, I would probably go to the
install> prompt before the package copy phase and ensure that any
filesystems that YDL 2.1 will be installing on are empty. For such
custom installs, I'll use the text installer until I learn how to
switch from virtual console 2 back to the GUI, ALT-7 did not work.
