Subject: can't find asm/errno.h

I'm having this problem trying to compile 2.2.17pre20-ben3 (as a prelude
to compiling airport.o):
In file included from /usr/include/bits/errno.h:25,
from /usr/include/errno.h:36,
from scripts/split-include.c:26:
/usr/include/linux/errno.h:4: asm/errno.h: No such file or directory
I moved the /usr/src/linux symlink to point to the pre20-ben3 source
directory; other than that, having installed ssh-1.2.30, and having
booted from a precompiled 2.2.17pre20-ben3, this system is totally
virginal. Summer 2000 iMac.
There is no 'asm' directory, just a bunch of asm-archname directories.
Should it be cleverly picking out the right one?
This is highly frustrating.
