Configuring server for internal network

I'm a wee bit confused about how to configure the networking info for
my CS 1.2.1 server. The server is running on an internal network,
with a single external IP mapped to the internal IP so I can access
the box from outside of the firewall. However, I'm having big issues
with telnet and FTP, specifically VERY long connect times on telnet
and NO connection via FTP. I've got a feeling that the server is
trying to resolve domain names on the IPs that are connecting to it,
but if I try to connect from within the network, there's obviously no
domain name to resolve. This presents problems for things like
running an internal icecast server, which really wants to resolve
domains, but there's nothing to resolve - it's all IP-based.

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom regarding setting up a fully
functioning YDL box on an internal network with no real hostname?

This is my first Linux box, so please bear with me.

Thanks!
Darren David
