Darron and Christopher,

Thanks for the quick responses. To answer Chris's question first, ie.
What is my setup?:

gateway Mac <- gateway machine connected to internet via Cable
Modem and running IPNetRouter using IP masquerading. Machine also
runs WebTen with several name-based virtual hosts and SIMS mail
server. (IP addresses 24.xx.xx.xx and 192.168.77.1) I'm getting DNS
services from my ISP, and as they charge for every entry in their
domain server, (even ones like somemachine.mydomain.com) I'm being
pretty stingy with my domain names.

My Mac <- my development machine. (IP 192.168.77.18)

YDL Mac <- (IP 192.168.77.49)

For the moment, The YDL machine is being configured and tested. It
isn't very secure yet, so I'm trying to get everything running while
it's still invisible from the outside world. Eventually, the YDL
machine will be configured with a domain name and a variety of
IP-based and name-based web sites. I want to be able to test
everything as thoroughly as possible while it's still safely hidden
away and want to minimize the amount of reconfiguration necessary
once it goes "live."

Darron,

I may have to do some more reading on DNS setup before I can dive
into your solution... However, with a couple more hints I may be
able to figure it out. :-)

In the $ORIGIN section of your zone file you have
machineX.internal.froese.org and darron.froese.org. How would this
work in my case, as I'm not running a local DNS server?

Again, thanks for your help. I'm been having a blast seeing my YDL
server take shape.

Best regards,
