System is a Wallstreet Powerbook.
I started by trying to get a PCMCIA CF card to work. PCMCIA works, but the card won't mount or even mke2fs. Then I tried the Zip drive with a FAT formatted disk. When that didn't work, I tried an ext2 formatted disk. Even that didn't work. Then I tried a floppy, (but not in the Zip drive), same result. The devices are recognized, but mount fails. The following example is typical:

# mount /dev/hde1 /mnt/flash
/dev/hde1: Success {So I appear to have the correct label}
mount: you must specify the filesystem type

# mount -t msdos /dev/hde1 /mnt/flash
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hde1,
       or too many mounted file systems

/proc/filesystems does not contain "msdos", "fat", or "vfat".

Are any FAT filesystems supported?

Are the zip drive and floppy mount failures caused by the same problem that is affecting the CF card?

And...
How many mounted filsystems is "too many"?
