Subject: cannot execute binary file

hiya folks,
Well I've seen this mentioned before on the list but
not an answer as things got sidetracked. Any binary I
try to run I get "cannot execute binary file".
Specifically I've downloaded staroffice.bin and
netscape6.1.bin. I am in as root and I did chmod to
777. its an unchanged base office install running on
an original ibook. yellowdog 2.0.
