"/sbin/mke2fs /dev/sdXN" will create a filesystem on a drive happy as can
be. I assume the the divers located in the hidden driver partitions are
for MacOS only and not for the Mac firmware hence making them fairly
useless to linux.

Please smack me if I'm worng. What do I know about ppc, my hard drive ate
its apps today :)
