I believe that in the new issue of Maximum Linux(spelling problems)(
published by the same people who bring you mac addict) there was an article
in there about back ups and rating on the software that connected the linux
machine to the hardware. You might want to read it before you go buying
anything.

I know that with some models of APS, you can install unix software (I
assume available for linux too) that allows you to plu the aps into a
serial port.

When power goes, the Linux is given the shitdown command.

That way it goes down clean
