Subject: GLX on a G4, Netscape crash

I am running YDL 1.2 on a G4 450 MP with the 2.2.17pre20-ben1 kernel and
XFree86 4.0.1 (I used rpm to remove the prior version, (3.3 I think)). My
problem is that programs that use GL don't seem to work. For example when I
use a screensaver that uses GL such as gears, I get the error message
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
I tried installing Mesa on my computer thinking that that would solve the
problem. No go.
Am I missing a piece of software or is this just a configuration problem?
Second problem is that when I use Netscape to check my mail on
mailexcite.com, the program just suddenly quits with an error message, or
anything. The window just disappears. Funny thing is that the same thing
happens to me on one other computer running Netscape on Windows 98- program
just disappears when I hit the button to log on. Same problem on two
different machines on two different operating systems (Microsoft
conspiracy?).
