I can't really solve your problem, but I can suggest a strategy that may
help. When I installed Apache with Jserv I downloaded all the relevant bits
and pieces, put them into a directory and wrote a script which did the
install. Then I could test whether things worked and tweak the scripts and
so on.

That way once I got it working I knew exactly what it was doing and
installing on other machines was really simple. In fact the original
install was on Solaris but I used the same set up when installing on
YellowDog and it worked perfectly!

You might find it helpful to do something similar. It's also good cause you
always know what you've done, and if it doesn't work you can send the
script to the list for people to see exactly what you're doing.

Then again, it might be really hard to do if the installation procedure for
any of the components in interactive.

Sorry I can't solve the *real* problem!
