Instead of using disk tools to format the partitions Linux is going to use
as "unallocated" try making them "Linux home" instead - then , while doing a
custom install, delete them while in the partition section and then make
them ext2 file systems -
Then while in the mount portion of custom install, make them whatever you
want - i.e. / or in my case / , /home , swap
