The installation instructions contained in the little manual that comes with
YDL instruct you to choose "unallocated" in the Apple disk tools dialog box
before rebooting into the YDL installer - this is what gave me the
partitioning errors.

Setting them to "Linux Home" allowed the installer to run on through (in
custom/graphical) flawlessly.
