This is why I buy YDL for PPC, and Mandrake for my single Intel box. BTW,
I've had far more problems getting Mandrake installed properly on a Dell
PIII 550 than *any* YDL install I've ever done. A large part of the
problems is that the Intel box really doesn't handle SCSI in an elegant
way.

How about getting volunteers? I would be happy to volunteer (free
labor!) to help out TerraSoft in any way I could. Contact me privately if
this interests you.

I agree with this 100%. We count on YDL for our central servers, we now
have 8 G4s running YDL in production with more to come. I also think that
TerraSoft did the right thing regarding the 2.4 kernels (it is the default
kernel in Mandrake 8). And my only real 'complaints' were the loss of
functionality with the installer, which I would expect to mature as Dan
stated above.

Our central server (www.mcgill.ca) is taking on about 2.4 million HTTP
requests per day now without any problems and using about %6 of the CPU on
a single 450MHz G4. The combo of the G4s with YDL gives us modularity,
redundancy and power at a cost that we couldn't get running Sun hardware.
This is why we migrated our central server from a Solaris machine to YDL.

Our next step is probably to buy a BriQ tower (or two), and use them as
specialized web servers for large units on campus.

Cheers,

Chris
