I've got the same machine as you. The future might be brighter (they've
got some Radeon drivers both in XFree86 and in the linux kernel
framebuffer code) but the present is a bit rough. I've the added problem
of having the 22" Apple Cinema Display which few people seem to have, so
it's support isn't all that great.
I tried the new Mandrake 8.0 PPC and was able to at least get a
text-only install going. It was buggy and took a degree of fiddling to
finally complete the install. I've been a Linux (Intel) guy for six
years now, so I've got a pretty good skill set.
For you and me, I don't think Linux PPC is functional in *any*
distribution...still.
