if something gets hosed all you have to do is delete your .xinitrc and no,
typing exec gnome-session at the bash prompt will not work, all that is
doing is attempting to start gnome, if you don't use startx, the xserver is
not running, and therefor there is no server for gnome to display on.

Before I do this, I'd like to test it. typing:

exec gnome-session

as a command prompt should work, right?

But what it yields is a rollover to login. I'm a little worried that
if I create an automatically loaded setting and it conflicts with
some other hosed setting (I keep getting a core dump in my directory)
I might be digging a hole I can't get out of.

Best, Ted
