Waldo, Waldo, Waldo, What's holding you back?

If you're running the box as a production machine, where's your backup
procedures? They should allow you to completely replace the box or its
software in as much time as it takes to install linux and a bit more to untar
the backup files.

Make a record of your ISP info so you can re-configure PPP

Plan on being down for a couple of hours while you get it all sorted out

Tar up your user accounts and stash the .tar somewhere like on a zip disk or
ftp it to a friend. Tar anything special you've built around apache, and
other server stuff.

If you have a very large disk, you might want to re-partition it allowing you
to have more than one linux installation in the future. Also make a /home
partition and maybe a /downloads partition.

You might want to make sure they're bootable first.
Re-Install from the disks. (there were some bad disks out there but you have
your 1.2 disks as a backup

Configure your ppp

Download the latest yup from Yellow dog

Do the yup config/update dance

Untar your user account stuff.

-Pat
