When I compiled kernel 2.4.7 a while back, I decided that I'd just
compile everything into it rather than to fiddle with modules. So I
have zero modules required. The only problem is that XFree86 seems to
look for my display modules. I have a 7500/control, and I compiled the
driver into the kernel, but it still wants the modules.

Is there a way around this, or should I just recompile and tell the damn
thing to load my display driver as a module?
