I downloaded the updcd_ramdisk.image.gz file, dropped it in place and
renamed it, and i've been able to get through about 90% of the install
procedure. but now the installer is crashing when i hit ok on the
authconfig 1.2 screen, with a variety of settings. i haven't tried too many
combos, because it takes a full reinstall each time just to get to that
point. The installer is giving me the same error i was getting yesterday
with the other crash i experienced:
"Install Exited Abnormally -- received Signal 11"
Linux appears to be there, and since i know the root partition is at hda8,
i can just set that in bootX and get as far as a login prompt. but it won't
accept the password i filled in during install. i assume that the password
was never written to the disk due to the installer crash.
so, is there a way to get around this login situation? i'm pretty confident
i can get everything set up the way i want it once i'm in, but right now i
have no idea how to get that far...
