Yeah, sure, that's basically all you need to do. Put vmlinux in your
system folder, install the correct modules into /lib/modules before
you boot the new kernel, put System.map in /boot if you want. I'm
running Paul Mackerras' build of 2.2.10 with YDL CS 1.1:

linux% cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.2.10 (paulus@tango.anu.edu.au) (gcc version egcs-2.90.25 980302 (egcs-1.0.2 prerelease)) #7 Fri Jun 18 10:13:46 EST 1999

You can build your own, of course, and it's a good experience, but if
you want to quickly move to a newer prebuilt kernel, you can do that,
too.
