Subject: More on missing virtual terminal #1 -- its the keyboard?

Well, I now have 10 virtual terminals, plus #11 for X.
i discovered in my playing around that F1 is not generating anything.
At the command line I type "<^V><F2>" and get "^[[[B", where the first
"^[" is the escape char. F3 gives "^[[[C", F4 "^[[[D". F1 gives
nothing.
Hardware time: this is a Power Mac 7300/180 with an AppleDesign
keyboard [the long one with a numberic keypad -- were there others?]
Any ideas?
