Is there a step by step other than the how to that explains how to set up a directory to be shared by certain users to be accessed from appletalk clients?

I have read through Running Linux and edited group files etc. with no luck. When I use groups <user> it successfully shows that the user is a member of the groups I added, but when that user logs into the server through a MacOS client using the Chooser, the only directory they are able to see is there home directory. How do I go about setting up the server so that they also see another mountable shared directory?
