Well, here is the way I got mine running.
In MacOS I set up all the parameters that I wanted (depth(16), geometry,
gamma). Then I installed Xpmac3.3.6-8a driver, along with XFree86
3.3.6-8a (which is not important in this case, I think). Then I used
Xconfigurator to make the config file with Apple 15" Multisync Monitor.
The default link X points to the fbdev driver -> change that to the
Xpmac driver. Maybe reboot, I can't remember. It worked for me; I have
1024x768 16bit XWin running.
