OK, I seem to have lost my ability to use ethernet under Linux. After
having someone walk me thru using a DHCPd client, it still doesn't work. we
edited ifdown and ifup, as well as resolv.conf and found that nothing
worked. I've narrowed the errors down to :
Bringing up interface eth0 [FAILED]

there's one other error, but i'm not sure what it is. (I think it's the one
about INET services, but not sure if the "FAILED" is on that line or the
next - or prior)

This is on YDL CS 1.1, with kernel 2.2.1(something)

After rebooting and waiting 5 min, i do ifconfig and get this:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:C5:47:6A:71
          BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          LOOPBACK MTU:3924 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0

ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol
          POINTOPOINT NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0

Before all this, i could use ethernet, but some stuff didn't seem to work
properly. I hope i've given enough info.
