Hi there. I'm trying to install YellowDog Linux on an iBook.

YELLOWDOG LINUX
Version: 1.1

IBOOK:
OS: 8.6
Partitions: "macos," HFS, 1GB; unallocated, 2GB
RAM: 96MB
CPU: PPCG3/300
Airport card

What I've done so far:

1. Booted from iMac OS8.6 CD
2. Reformatted drive, creating a 1GB HFS partition and leaving the rest
unallocated
3. Installed MacOS 8.6
4. Installed Airport Card support

Then I tried BootX:

5. Installed BootX 1.2b3 (BootX extension in Extensions folder, BootX cdev
in Pontrol Panels folder), vmlinux.ibook.9 in the System Folder
6. Dragged ramdisk.image.gz from the 1.1 CD into the System Folder
7. Used BootX App to reboot in Linux

The result?

A black screen with

    Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.2.14pre9
    started at : 0x00000000
    linked at : 0xc0000000
frame buffer at: 0x91800480 (phys), 0x91800480 (log)
    MSR : 0x00000002

    booting...

Which just sat there for ten minutes.

So then I

8. Replaced vmlinux.ibook.9 with vmlinux.benh.15
9. Used BootX App to reboot in Linux

The result?

A black screen with

    Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.2.15pre3
    started at : 0x00000000
    linked at : 0xc0000000
frame buffer at: 0x91800480 (phys), 0x91800480 (log)
    MSR : 0x00000002
    HID0 : 0xc010c0a4
    ICTC : 0x000000000

    booting...

Which just sat there for ten minutes.

So then I

10. Replaced the BootX 1.2b3 components with their BootX 1.1.3 breathern
11. Used BootX App to reboot in Linux

The result?

A black screen with

    Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.2.15pre3
    started at : 0x00000000
    linked at : 0xc0000000
frame buffer at: 0x91800480 (phys), 0x91800480 (log)
    MSR : 0x00000002
    HID0 : 0xc010c0a4
    ICTC : 0x000000000

    booting...

Which just sat there for ten minutes.

So then I

12. Replaced vmlinux.benh.15 with vmlinux.ibook.9
13. Used BootX App to reboot in Linux

The result?

A black screen with

    Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.2.14pre9
    started at : 0x00000000
    linked at : 0xc0000000
frame buffer at: 0x91800480 (phys), 0x91800480 (log)
    MSR : 0x00000002

    booting...

Which just sat there for ten minutes.

So I switched to Yaboot.

12. I dragged all the BootX components out of the System Folder
13. Moved vmlinux.ibook.9 and ramdisk.image.gz to the root of the sole HFS
partition
14. Moved yaboot_0.4 and yaboot.conf to the the root of the sole HFS
partition
15. Changed all references to "zip:" in yaboot.conf to "hd:"
16. Rebooted with cmd-opt-o-f down
16. Typed boot hd:yaboot_0.4
17. Typed install

Whereupon the screen went black and stayed that way.

So I:

18. Switched vmlinux.ibook.9 with vmlinux.benh.15
19. Rebooted with cmd-opt-o-f down
20. Typed boot hd:yaboot_0.4
21. Typed install

The result?

A black screen with

    Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.2.15pre3
    started at : 0x00000000
    linked at : 0xc0000000
frame buffer at: 0x91800480 (phys), 0x91800480 (log)
    MSR : 0x00000002
    HID0 : 0xc010c0a4
    ICTC : 0x000000000

    booting...

Which just sat there for ten minutes.

So now I'm writing to you-all. Got any advice for me?
