Subject: External Modem difficulties

Greetings...
CS 1.1 on Beige 300mhz G3
NNo install problems, however, under both minicom and Kppp, I can't get
the modem to be reckognized.
Settings:
Dev: /dev/cua1
Flow, Line, and Modem tab settings all at default.
TWhen testing modem, machine siezes, but three finger salute allows the
reboot, when attempting to connect, had a hard crash. Power button was
the only solution.
Trying to reckognize a Diamond 56k v90 external connected to the Modem
port.
Solutions or help? (couldn't find any in the archives.
