I need to get cdrecord onto my system before I try to install
something that uses it. When I tried to install it last night, it
wasn't compiling right, so I think I may have downloaded the wrong
one. Could you point me to the file (exactly) that I need? My drive
is on the list of supported drives for cdrecord 1.8, so that seems to
be the appropriate one.

Also, my question about checking to see if the drive works at all has
nothing to do with burning the CD's. I just want to know if I should
be able to mount it and read from it. It is currently marked as ID 5
on the SCSI chain, so I assumed that since I had to turn on sg in my
kernel (as per instruction from others) that I could do:

mount -t iso9660 /dev/sg5 /mnt/burner

...but it says that /dev/sg5 is not a valid blck device.

Any suggestions? I am really appreciating all of this help.

"Today's CS lecture will be conducted entirely through the medium of
interpretive dance."
